Santa Teresa Beaches
Our most notable beaches on the Pacific side of the peninsula include: Playa Carmen – located at the crossroads of Santa Teresa and Mal Pais, this is one of the areas most popular surf beaches.
Stretching over half a mile, it offers two major surfbreaks. Many tropical boutique resorts and some private residences open up directly to the palm tree lined, light sanded beach front.
For the past couple of years the beaches of Santa Teresa were rated as the best in all of Central and South America. A consistent wave machine offshore breaking on to fine, white sandy beaches, and stunning mountains framing the coastline create an ideal beach experience.
Playa Hermosa – as the name suggests, this is a breathtakingly beautiful beach. Sparsely developed behind lush beachfront vegetation, this quiet beach offers a wonderful “away from it all” feeling. Its shallow, sandy ocean floor and large surf break makes it a favorite for all levels of surfers, from beginners to pros. See Tripadvisor – Best Beaches in Central America
Playa Manzanillo – located 30 minutes north of the Santa Teresa crossroads, this calm bay has a beautiful, almost white sand beach. The ocean here has minimal wave action, making it a great beach for families with small children, and for those who enjoy water sports that require flat waters.
Swedish Cove – This charming and secluded cove is located at the entrance of the Cabo Blanco National Park, at the southern end of Mal Pais. During low tide, snorklers can enjoy aquatic life along a rock reef. Between the numerous sandy beaches are rocky outcroppings which, during low tide, offer fabulous natural tide pools.
